A mark breakdown provides a detailed view of how marks were awarded for your assessment. It is designed to help you better understand your performance by showing the marks awarded for each question or task, together with your overall raw mark. Many learners find this useful when reviewing their results and discussing their performance with their Learning Partner. Mark breakdowns show where marks were awarded and where marks were not achieved.

Which units are mark breakdowns available for?
Mark breakdowns are automatically provided for:
- NG1/IG1
- GNC1/GIC1
- GNC2/GIC2
- FSC1
- EMC1
- CN/CI
- DN1/DI1, DN2/DI2 and DN3/DI3.
How are the mark breakdowns issued?
They are sent automatically by email to the address NEBOSH holds on record for you and are typically issued within two working days of you receiving your Unit Result Notification (URN). There is no need to request one. If your result has been withheld due to a malpractice investigation, a mark breakdown will not be issued at that time. Once your result has been released, you may request a mark breakdown from NEBOSH.
For ED1 units, mark breakdowns are available on request and are not issued automatically.
Your Learning Partner will also receive mark breakdown information for the units listed above. This information is provided to help them support learners following the release of results and may be shared with the relevant learner. Learning Partners receive this information as a cohort report covering their learners.
Why might my mark breakdown differ from my URN?
The mark breakdown shows the raw marks awarded by the Examiner. In some cases, these marks may differ from the mark shown on your Unit Result Notification. This is because the final result published on the URN may include adjustments made through NEBOSH's awarding process to ensure that results remain fair and consistent across different assessment sittings. Any Special Consideration awarded after marking has taken place will also not appear on the mark breakdown.
If you would like to check whether any adjustments were applied for your assessment sitting, please visit our Pass Marks page. If your result changes following an Enquiry About Results (EAR), you may request an updated mark breakdown once the EAR process has been completed. Information about EARs can be found on our EAR page.
