It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

Recommended standards

The following guidance relates to qualifications which are delivered and assessed in English. Some NEBOSH qualifications are available in additional languages, the web page for your chosen qualification will list any language options available. 

  • Award level qualifications - NEBOSH recommends that learners should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
  • Certificate level qualifications - NEBOSH recommends that learners should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
  • Diploma level qualifications - NEBOSH recommends that learners should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an IELTS score of 7.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
