NEBOSH qualifications can now be taken in French

Two NEBOSH Certificate level qualifications are now being made available in French as part of NEBOSH’s on-going international offering.

Examinations in French can be taken for both the NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and the NEBOSH International Certificate in Construction Health and Safety from 9 September 2013.

French is spoken by around 110 million people as a first language and a further 190 million speak it as a second language. It is the fourth most widely used language in Europe, predominantly in France of course, as well as in parts of Belgium and Switzerland. Outside of Europe, French is used in some provinces of Canada and parts of the USA. In Africa, French is spoken in Gabon, Mauritius, Algeria, Senegal and Ivory Coast.

NEBOSH Chief Executive Teresa Budworth commented: “Responding to demand from people whose first language is not English is one of our most important goals right now.

“NEBOSH qualifications have a strong global reputation and importantly they help to improve health and safety standards in workplaces worldwide, saving lives and preventing unnecessary ill health and injuries. It is vital that we spread this positive influence on health and safety management as widely as possible.”

The NEBOSH International General Certificate qualification is popular throughout the world, attracting more than 65,000 examination registrations last year. This makes it NEBOSH’s most popular qualification. It covers a wide range of workplace hazards and methods of control. It includes international standards for safety and health management including International Labour Organisation (ILO) codes of practice. Importantly, the qualification also features a practical workplace assessment to help participants apply their knowledge in their own workplace, adding further value for employers.

As well as English the NEBOSH International General Certificate can now be taken in Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Portuguese and French.

The NEBOSH International Construction Certificate is more specialist and is aimed at those working in or supervising construction work, although it is widely taken by those in utilities and facilities management. It too is based around international standards and like the General Certificate features a construction based safety inspection.
