NEBOSH to Develop HSE Inspectors' Qualification

Friday, 6 November 2015

NEBOSH has been selected by the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to develop an accredited qualification for all new health and safety inspectors.

The qualification will be entitled the “NEBOSH Diploma in Regulatory Occupational Health and Safety” and it is intended that it will be submitted for accreditation to the Scottish Qualification Authority.

HSE is the UK’s national independent regulator for work-related health and safety.

NEBOSH will be developing the qualification jointly with HSE who will be delivering much of the teaching themselves. Both organisations will also jointly develop the syllabus and assessment methodology and NEBOSH will be responsible for moderation of the assessments, monitoring standards and awarding the qualification.

NEBOSH Chief Executive, Teresa Budworth, commented: “We are delighted that the HSE has recognised our core strengths of developing robust vocational qualifications, and our ability to ensure appropriate assessments.

HSE inspectors make a huge difference to health and safety in Britain. They identify failings that lead to loss of life, injury and illness and then take appropriate action. We’re very proud to have been chosen by HSE to support their training and development programme.”
