NEBOSH-supported research paper published: Occupational Health and Safety Concerns in the Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining
Tuesday, 21 October 2025
In 2024, NEBOSH announced that it was investing in a project to tackle one of the world’s most dangerous occupations: artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM).
The project – coordinated by the International Occupational Medicine Society Collaborative (IOMSC) and supported by the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) – aims to improve the health, safety, livelihoods and wellbeing of people who work and live in these mining communities.
NEBOSH’s support funded the first phase of the project, in which occupational medicine society members conducted research to create a clearer picture of the situation. A report has now been published and is available to download in English and French, using the links below:
SOM is hosting a webinar on this topic. It takes place at 2pm on 9 December 2025 and registration is free; Register Online
