NEBOSH support for NCRQ learners

Monday, 31 October 2022

NEBOSH and its Learning Partners have been contacted by a number of learners who had enrolled on a Diploma course delivered by NCRQ.

Following the recent administration of NCRQ, we understand that some people who had not yet completed their studies are eager to continue their learning and gain a qualification that recognises this learning. We, here at NEBOSH, would like to help anyone from the community who needs our support.

Before we go any further, it is important to note that at the time of writing, AIM Qualifications and Assessments Group (the awarding organisation for the NCRQ suite of qualifications) is in contact with affected learners. We would urge you to refer to AIM and/or their communications for advice related to your individual situation before making a decision about your continued studies.

A comparable Diploma

The NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals is a long-established and recently reviewed qualification with updated assessments. It is credit rated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) Accreditation at SCQF Level 10 – SCQF Level 10 is comparable to RQF/CQFW Level 6 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This is the same level as the NCRQ Diploma. For anyone taking the NEBOSH National Diploma in the UK, it is also regulated by SQA Accreditation and meets the academic requirements to apply for IOSH membership at the appropriate grade**.

What NEBOSH is doing

Inevitably there will be shared learning outcomes between the NEBOSH and NCRQ Diploma syllabuses. We are therefore in the process of mapping the NCRQ qualification against our own to determine these shared learning points and, for people who would like to switch to a NEBOSH Diploma, where we can recognise their prior learning.

What does this mean? By recognising prior learning, a person may not need to undertake all of a NEBOSH Diploma course. Instead they may be able to complete just some parts of the course, or a bridging course, to prepare them for NEBOSH assessments.

We do know that new learners would be required to undertake all NEBOSH National Diploma assessments, which are now one workplace assignment and two scenario-based case studies.  We are unable to apply assessment exemptions for anyone who has achieved a unit(s) of any other qualification.

We are working as quickly as we can to conclude this mapping exercise. As soon as we do we will brief our Learning Partners who are accredited to deliver the NEBOSH National Diploma. We will also publish a statement on our website which confirms these details for interested learners and provide contact details for those NEBOSH-accredited Learning Partners who are able to help.
