British Sugar Sweet about NEBOSH

British Sugar’s dedication to the health, welfare and safety of its employees has been underlined at the highest level when its UK Managing Director Gino De Jaegher took time out from running the company to earn a credit in his NEBOSH National General Certificate examination.

As part of its commitment to health and safety British Sugar has worked with Oracle Safety Associates Limited to run courses over the last five years for the National General Certificate (NGC).  This has involved training members of British Sugar’s factory management (including its management in Poland and China).  In fact an NGC is needed to authorise high risk permit work, making it a key part of British Sugar’s core competency for safety training.

Gino De Jaegher receiving his NGC Certificate at British Sugar’s annual safety awards commented, “I’m delighted to have earned my Certificate.  Safety is of paramount importance to me and we all have a responsibility to make sure we are fully trained in our responsibilities and think safety first.”

Head of Safety at British Sugar, Dr Ash Solanki, added “I consider the NEBOSH training carried out by Oracle Safety Associates has helped us deliver a beneficial change in leadership and behaviour across our factories.  This has had a direct result in reducing lost time injuries.”
