NEBOSH National Fire Certificate now accepted by the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers

We are pleased to announce that the NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management is now recognised by the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO).

The IFPO represents fire safety professionals across all sectors of employment including manufacturing, transport and the fire and rescue services.

Holders of the NEBOSH National Fire Certificate are now entitled to Technician membership (TIFPO) of the Institute and the qualification also meets the academic requirements for Associate membership (AIFPO). The IFPO have agreed to waive their joining fee for candidates whose membership application is received within 3 months of passing the fire certificate qualification.

The IFPO has for a number of years operated its own fire risk assessor’s register following the guidelines issued by the competency criteria counsel.  Holding the NEBOSH Fire Certificate would help to support a candidate’s application for entry onto the register, which assesses the individual’s relevant skills and experience.

NEBOSH Development Manager Barry Wilkes commented: “We’re extremely proud that the NEBOSH National Fire Certificate is now being accepted as a route to membership by the IFPO. We encourage all of our students to continue their professional development and becoming a member of institutes like the IFPO can really help with this.”

IFPO Chairman Ian Shakespeare added “We are delighted to have become involved with such a well-known and prestigious organisation as NEBOSH. Our connection can only help to raise the professionalism and competence of those working to reduce risks from fire in the workplace.”
