Middle East becoming 'a centre of knowledge' for HSE

The Middle East is rapidly becoming a global centre of knowledge for health, safety and environmental management (HSE) according to international occupational examinations body NEBOSH.

Last year more than one in five of NEBOSH’s 100,000 exam entries came from the Middle East region.

“High standards of occupational safety, health and environmental management are important in the industries traditionally associated with the Middle East, particularly oil and gas,” said Teresa Budworth, NEBOSH Chief Executive. “This, coupled with investment in infrastructure in the region, has led to employers demanding a better qualified workforce.”

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently upgraded its economic growth forecast for the Middle East and Africa region to 5.5%, which contrasts sharply with the far gloomier global picture.

NEBOSH has announced it will be attending the IFSEC & OSH Arabia Conference and Exhibition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between 9 and 11 December 2012.

NEBOSH International Manager Stuart Naylor commented: "This is a key event in the region and we are delighted to be showing our support."
