NEBOSH to sponsor African health & safety expo

NEBOSH is to sponsor the inaugural Occupational Safety & Health Expo Africa (OSH Expo Africa) event later this year.

The trade exhibition and seminar programme will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa between 6 - 8 September, and is set to attract visitors from throughout the African region.    We will be located on stand Q90 and would like you to come along and see us.

According to the Economist, sub-Saharan African nations account for 6 of the world's top ten fastest growing economies in the world. South Africa itself is one of four African countries, along with Botswana, Gabon and Mauritius, now ranked as an upper-middle income economy by the World Bank.

This economic development has led to increasing importance being placed on health and safety standards in the region, with new legislation and workforce health and safety training becoming more widespread.

Demand for NEBOSH qualifications in Africa has more than doubled in the past 2 years. In 2010/11 more than 4,500 assessments were taken in the African region, compared to fewer than 2,000 in 2008/09.

NEBOSH Chief Executive Teresa Budworth commented: "We've witnessed a dramatic increase in demand for our qualifications throughout the world in recent years. Around 40% of NEBOSH examinations are now taken outside of the UK.

"Africa, together with Asia and the Middle East, has helped to establish NEBOSH qualifications as the global benchmark of excellence in the field of health and safety, which is why we are delighted to support this new important international event."
