Registrations for NEBOSH Oil & Gas Certificate grow by over 770% in just 12 months

The number of people registering to take an international health and safety qualification for those working in the oil and gas industry has grown by over 770% in just 12 months.

NEBOSH said its International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety
is now attracting increasing numbers of students every month. Over the last three months up until the end of March over 750 people registered to take the qualification.

The Certificate was launched in July 2010 and is part of NEBOSH’s range of globally-recognised health, safety, environmental and risk management qualifications.

Teresa Budworth, Chief Executive of NEBOSH, commented: “The launch of our Oil & Gas Certificate couldn’t have been better timed. The Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 was a wake-up call for the industry everywhere to look more closely at its safety standards and procedures.

“One way of ensuring better standards is to improve knowledge and awareness of health and safety. Our qualification focuses on safety management systems, helping those working in the industry fulfill their workplace safety responsibilities both onshore and offshore.”

Mohamed Ahmed Al-Muflehi, Health and Safety Manager at Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) and the Recipient of Middle East Oil & Gas Outstanding Leader of the Year Award, added: “I believe this qualification is an essential tool for the oil and gas industry as it helps to create a HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) competent workforce, which in turn strengthens HSE management.
